Alexandra Plaza Torres

Principal, Main Street High School, Kissimmee, Florida

Mrs. Plaza, Principal of Main Street High was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Her passion for education started when she moved from the private sector to the public educational system in 2003. For more than 20 years she has been an advocate for education. She is married to Dr. Wilberto Baez, Testing Coordinator in Osceola School District, and is the mom of Jehiel and Nirel. Their favorite hobby is camping.

She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Puerto Rico in Ponce, and her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education. Mrs. Plaza’s certifications include Spanish K-12, ESOL Endorsement, Reading Endorsement, and Educational Leadership.

Mrs. Plaza believes that with love, compassion, and guidance all students can succeed. She tells her students that at Main Street they will receive a second chance to start over and fulfill their dreams. “Not everyone gets a second chance. If you do get one, take advantage of it because it’s a gift, and it may be something better than you had before! -Nishan Panwar. She also acknowledges that parental involvement is one of the most important pillars in schools.

When multicultural students enroll at Main Street, Mrs. Plaza makes sure that they receive the support to feel welcome no matter the language they speak. Her experience in teaching adults grants her the sensibility to understand the new families at the school and their struggles. Although it might be difficult going to a new school, we are a family and through a strong bond and mentoring, our students and their families can see their dreams come true. Mrs. Plaza leads by example and has an open-door policy that provides the students an opportunity to be known and heard. She has participated in the charter renewal process with the Osceola County School District and Cognia Accreditation for Main Street.
